The Credit Card Paradox

It’s truly a strange world sometimes. In order to get by most days, you now need at least one credit card. However, it’s hard to keep only in your pocketbook. Suddenly you may have seven or eight and you have no idea how you are going to take care of the payments. Such is the credit world nowadays.

You may think you will never get a card because your credit is so low. Suprisingly enough, this may not be true. There are companies now that are catering specifically to those with bad credit. Of course, the interest rates could be astronomical and you may have severe fees as well, but you can get a card.

These companies often charge fees upwards of a couple hundred pounds in order for you get your card. These charges will be added to your balance and you can make payments on them, but you will usually be charged interest this way.

Sometimes, it really may be beneficial to take advantage of one of these accounts in order to boost your rating. However, you must make the payments on time every month. Otherwise your rating will fall even lower. These companies will charge late fees too. So your balance can just keep going higher and higher.

The best advise for this type of account is to pay off the balance in full each month. This means you cannot use it for more than you can afford when payment time comes. But if you don’t use it all, you won’t be building up any history with the company either. Use it for a couple of small purchases each month and pay your balance completely off each month.

Before long, you will see other offers for cards arriving in the post. You’ll be surprised too, because it won’t take any time at all. That’s the beauty of keeping the balance of these cards at zero. Many other companies will notice your ability to pay and will offer you a better deal for another card.

Be careful however. This may be one reason your credit is so bad to begin with. If you start accepting every invitation for a new account you receive and charging up large amounts of debts, you will be right back where you started.
